Anytime I read this I always think about how awesome it’d be if they made it into a movie. Like high budget, Scorsese directing, DiCaprio starring as the lead man type of movie.

Picture this: the movie opens with Leo addicted to drugs and alcohol, deeply depressed over his one true love (played by Kate Bosworth because I like Kate Bosworth). He falls deeper and deeper into a depression, his father (played by Jon Voight because I feel like that’s the only part he can play these days) tries to snap him out of it but there’s no use. He refuses to acknowledge anything is wrong, only sometimes muttering the phrase “Five Ever” which no one seems to understand.

Throughout the movie Leo is having flashbacks of the day Kate died. The couple walking on a cool fall day. They’re both grad students at the time, Leo walking Kate to one of her classes. Playfully messing with eachother, Kate looks into Leo’s eyes and whispers, “Baby will you love me forever?”

Leo torments himself everyday over that question. Why couldn’t he just have said yes? Why did he say no just to playfully egg her on? At first the flashbacks stop there. As the movie progresses you see what happens to Kate.

Upon hearing “No” from Leo, Kate puts on a puppy dog frown and walks backwards into the street. Leo is smiling back at her when it happens. Out of nowhere a truck hits her, Kate cracks her neck against the hood and falls to the ground. Leo is shocked (we bring in Michael Bay to do some fancy 360 degree rotations of Leo upon seeing the accident, slow motion, maybe a model or two in the background). Leo runs towards Kate to help. The man driving the truck gets out, bewildered, wearing a green jumpsuit - his uniform for work. He calls 911 and is trying to talk to Leo but Leo can’t hear. Leo is holding Kate, obviously dead at this point, a single tear rolls off his cheek.

The last scene is where the audience gets to see the ending of the flashback. Leo brings his mouth close to Kate’s ear and says, “I meant to say I will love you five ever”

The scene fades to black, the audience likes it because they cry every time.
